Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 500g summer fruits (mixed berries such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries)
- 500g jam sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the fruit: Briefly blend the summer fruits to a slightly chunky consistency, ensuring you retain some texture in your jam.
- Combine fruit and sugar: Place the blended fruit in a large microwave-proof bowl and add the jam sugar. Mix well to combine evenly.
- First microwave: Microwave the mixture on high for 3 minutes to start dissolving the sugar and releasing fruit juices.
- Stir and second microwave: Stir the mixture thoroughly to blend and microwave again on high for another 3 minutes, helping the jam thicken.
- Final microwave and stirring: Microwave once more on high for 2 minutes, then give the mixture a final stir to ensure even consistency.
- Sterilize jars: Before bottling, sterilize your jars by washing, drying thoroughly, and placing them in a medium oven (around 150°C/300°F) for 5 minutes.
- Bottle the jam: Pour the hot jam into the warm sterilized jars, seal them immediately, and let them cool to room temperature.
- Storage: Store the sealed jars in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months. Once opened, keep refrigerated and consume within a reasonable timeframe.
Notes
- Use a mix of your favorite summer berries for a more complex flavor.
- Ensure jars are completely dry before sterilizing to avoid cracking.
- Jam sugar contains pectin which helps the jam set properly without needing additional gelling agents.
- Check the consistency of the jam once cooled; if too runny, extend the last microwaving step by 1-2 minutes.
- Suitable to gift with printable preserves labels for personal notes.
