This Philly Cheesesteak Casserole is a hearty and flavorful twist on the classic sandwich, combining tender seasoned steak, sautéed onions and bell peppers, creamy cheese, and pasta baked to bubbly perfection. It’s an easy one-dish meal perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound steak (ribeye or sirloin), thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 large bell pepper (green or red), sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Dairy and Cheese

  • 2 cups shredded provolone cheese
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened

Pantry

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces pasta (penne or rotini)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook Pasta: Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain well and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Cook Steak: Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the thinly sliced steak with salt and pepper, then cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove steak from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add sliced onions, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are tender and fragrant, about 5-6 minutes.
  5. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, sautéed vegetables, cooked steak, softened cream cheese, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the shredded provolone cheese. Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly.
  6. Assemble Casserole: Grease a casserole dish and transfer the mixture into it. Evenly sprinkle the remaining provolone cheese on top.
  7. Bake: Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese on top is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Garnish and Cool: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
  9. Serve: Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Philly Cheesesteak Casserole!

Notes

  • Use ribeye for a more tender, flavorful steak or sirloin for a leaner option.
  • You can substitute penne or rotini with any short pasta shape you prefer.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to your taste before baking.
  • For a spicier version, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the vegetable sauté.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
