Description
Delight in these elegant Nutella Puff Pastry Snowflakes, a crispy, buttery treat filled with rich chocolate-hazelnut spread. Perfect as a festive snack or a charming dessert, this recipe transforms simple puff pastry sheets into beautiful twisted snowflake shapes dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 2 sheets ready-rolled puff pastry (about 8.8 oz each), thawed if frozen
Filling
- 6 tablespoons Nutella or other chocolate-hazelnut spread
Glaze & Garnish
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare tray: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Arrange first pastry sheet: Unroll one sheet of thawed puff pastry and place it flat on the prepared baking tray.
- Spread filling: Evenly spread 6 tablespoons of Nutella over the pastry sheet, leaving a 0.4-inch border around the edges to allow for sealing.
- Add second pastry sheet: Carefully place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the first, aligning the edges precisely to encase the Nutella filling.
- Cut pastry into strips: Place a small glass gently in the center of the stacked pastry sheets without pressing down. Using a sharp knife, cut from the edge of the glass to the outer edge into 16 equal strips, creating a sun ray pattern.
- Twist strips and shape: Twist each strip carefully two to three times to form spiral shapes. Optionally, pinch ends together if you want to create a snowflake pattern for a decorative effect.
- Remove glass and apply glaze: Carefully lift out the glass from the center, then brush the entire surface with the beaten egg wash to help the pastry achieve a beautiful golden color during baking.
- Bake until golden: Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and has turned a deep golden brown.
- Cool and finish: Allow the pastry snowflakes to cool slightly on the tray. Then dust them lightly with powdered sugar for a snowy, festive finish. Serve warm or at room temperature for best enjoyment.
Notes
- Make sure puff pastry sheets are fully thawed before working with them to avoid tearing.
- When twisting the strips, be gentle to keep the layers intact for maximum puff.
- If desired, use a sharp serrated knife to make cutting easier and cleaner.
- These snowflakes can be made ahead and gently reheated in a warm oven prior to serving.
- For a nut-free alternative, substitute Nutella with a chocolate spread or jam of your choice.
