Scale
Jam Ingredients
- 2 cups Fresh Blueberries
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
- Zest and juice of 1 Lemon
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of fresh blueberries, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and the zest and juice of one lemon. Place the pan over medium heat and cook uncovered until the berries start to soften, releasing their juices.
- Mash and Simmer: Use a potato masher or fork to gently mash the berries, breaking them up slightly. Increase the heat to medium-high, then let the mixture simmer uncovered for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to jam consistency.
- Cool the Jam: Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the jam to cool. The mixture will continue to thicken as it cools to room temperature.
- Serve and Store: Once cooled, serve the jam on toast, pancakes, or your favorite treats. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Notes
- This recipe does not require added pectin because the natural pectin in the berries combined with lemon juice helps the jam set.
- Adjust sugar quantity based on sweetness of your blueberries or personal preference.
- Use a fine mesh strainer if you prefer a smoother jam by removing skins and seeds after cooking.
- Store refrigerated and consume within 2 weeks for freshness.
