Description
Delight in these easy-to-make Mint Chocolate Truffles, a luscious treat combining smooth milk chocolate with refreshing peppermint essence. Perfect for gifting or a decadent homemade indulgence, these truffles are made by melting cream and chocolate together, then chilling until firm before rolling into bite-sized balls coated with icing sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
Truffle Mixture
- 100ml double cream
- 200g milk chocolate, broken into pieces
- ¼ tsp peppermint essence
Coating
- Icing sugar, for rolling
Instructions
- Heat the Cream: Pour the double cream into a pan and bring it just to the boil over medium heat, being careful not to let it overflow or burn.
- Melt the Chocolate: Remove the pan from heat and immediately add the broken pieces of milk chocolate. Stir continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Add Peppermint Essence: Stir in ¼ teaspoon of peppermint essence thoroughly for a refreshing mint flavor.
- Chill the Mixture: Allow the mixture to cool slightly at room temperature, then transfer it to the fridge and chill for approximately 2 to 3 hours, or until the mixture is solid enough to shape.
- Form Truffles: Using teaspoons, scoop out portions of the chilled mixture and quickly roll them into small walnut-sized balls with your hands to maintain the shape.
- Coat in Icing Sugar: Roll each ball in icing sugar to coat evenly, giving the truffles a delicate sweet finish and a powdery texture.
- Store: Keep the truffles chilled in the refrigerator, where they will remain fresh for up to 3 days, or freeze them for up to 1 month for longer storage.
Notes
- Use good quality milk chocolate for a richer taste and smoother texture.
- If peppermint essence is too strong, adjust the quantity to your taste.
- Handling the mixture quickly is important as it softens at room temperature.
- Chilling overnight can improve the texture and ease of shaping.
- These truffles are best enjoyed chilled but can be brought to room temperature for softer texture before serving.
