Ingredients
Scale
Shrimp
- 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined (large or jumbo size recommended)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Sauce
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
Cooking fats
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
Garnish
- Sesame seeds (optional)
- Chopped green onions (for freshness)
Instructions
- Prepare the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, then season them with salt and black pepper evenly on all sides.
- Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and red pepper flakes if using. Set the mixture aside.
- Cook the shrimp: Heat olive oil and unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat until melted and hot. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side, flipping once, until the shrimp become pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set aside on a plate.
- Simmer the sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the same skillet. Allow it to simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
- Toss shrimp in sauce: Return the cooked shrimp to the pan and toss thoroughly to coat them well with the thickened sauce. Cook for an additional minute to heat everything through, then remove from heat.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions on top for added texture and freshness. Serve immediately, ideally alongside steamed rice or sautéed vegetables.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, increase the red pepper flakes to taste or add a dash of hot sauce.
- If preferred, substitute the soy sauce with tamari to make the dish gluten-free.
- Ensure shrimp are fully thawed if using frozen for even cooking.
- Use fresh lemon juice rather than bottled for the best flavor.
- You can double the sauce ingredients to have extra glaze for serving.
