Description
A quick and easy Philly Cheesesteak recipe using ground beef, melted provolone, and cream cheese blended with sautéed bell peppers and onions, served in soft sub rolls. Perfect for a comforting and flavorful sandwich that comes together in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 sweet yellow onion, chopped
- 6 oz provolone cheese, diced (plus more for topping if desired)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp milk
Seasonings
- 1.5 tsp garlic powder
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
Serving
- 6 sub rolls (6 inches each)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the ground beef mixture: Heat a large skillet over high heat. Add the ground beef, chopped onions, and green bell pepper. Brown the mixture thoroughly, stirring occasionally until the beef is fully cooked and the vegetables are softened. Drain excess fat and juices from the skillet to keep the filling from being greasy.
- Add cheese and seasonings: Dice the provolone cheese and add it to the warm beef mixture along with the softened cream cheese, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all ingredients. Simmer over medium-low heat for 3 to 4 minutes to allow the cheeses to melt and flavors to blend. Remove from heat.
- Prepare the rolls: Cut each sub roll in half lengthwise carefully, ensuring they remain sturdy enough to hold the filling. Place a generous spoonful of the beef and cheese mixture onto the bottom half of each roll.
- Optional broiling: If desired, top each sandwich with additional sliced provolone cheese. Place the assembled sandwiches on a baking sheet and broil in the oven for 2 to 3 minutes or until the cheese on top is melted and bubbly. Watch closely to prevent burning.
- Garnish and serve: Remove sandwiches from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a bright, fresh touch. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your homemade Philly cheesesteaks.
Notes
- Drain the grease thoroughly to prevent soggy sandwiches.
- For extra authenticity, you can use thinly sliced steak, but ground beef makes for a faster, easier version.
- Control spice by adjusting garlic and pepper levels to your taste.
- Broiling is optional but recommended for melty cheese and a nicely toasted roll top.
- Use sub rolls sturdy enough to hold the filling without falling apart.
