This classic Cheese Ball recipe is a creamy, flavorful appetizer perfect for parties and gatherings. Ingredients
Scale
Cheese Ball Mixture
- 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups shredded white sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 green onions, sliced
- A few dashes of hot sauce
Coating and Serving
- 1 cup finely chopped pecans
- Crackers, cut up vegetables, or baguette slices, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the cheese mixture: In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the shredded sharp cheddar cheese and mix until just combined. Then incorporate the garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, sliced green onions, and a few dashes of hot sauce. Mix everything well until fully combined.
- Shape and chill: Spoon the cheese mixture onto a large sheet of plastic wrap and form it into a ball shape. Wrap the cheese ball tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour to allow it to firm up and the flavors to meld.
- Coat with pecans and serve: When ready to serve, remove the cheese ball from the refrigerator. Place the finely chopped pecans on a plate. Unwrap the cheese ball and gently roll it in the pecans, coating it evenly. Transfer the coated cheese ball to a serving plate and serve alongside crackers, sliced baguette, or cut-up vegetables.
Notes
- Letting the cream cheese come to room temperature ensures easier mixing and a smoother texture.
- The cheese ball can be made up to 24 hours in advance and kept refrigerated.
- For a milder flavor, reduce or omit the hot sauce.
- Try rolling the cheese ball in other coatings like chopped herbs, bacon bits, or crushed pretzels for variety.
- Make sure to chill the cheese ball thoroughly so it holds its shape when serving.
