Bourbon Chicken Recipe

  • Author: Ethan
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings 1x

Description

A flavorful and easy-to-make Bourbon Chicken recipe featuring tender boneless chicken breasts simmered in a rich sauce of bourbon, apple cider, garlic chili sauce, and brown sugar. Perfect for a Cajun-inspired meal served over red beans and rice or your favorite sides.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Marinade

  • 4 lbs boneless chicken breasts, cut into ½-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons garlic chili sauce with crushed red pepper

Sauce

  • 1 cup apple cider
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • ⅓ cup bourbon
  • ⅓ cup soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil and cook the chicken: In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the cubed chicken breasts, crushed garlic, and grated fresh ginger. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is lightly browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add sauces and liquids: Stir in the garlic chili sauce, apple cider, ketchup, cider vinegar, soy sauce, and bourbon into the skillet. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for a few minutes until the sauce starts to thicken slightly.
  3. Simmer with brown sugar: Add the light brown sugar, reduce the heat to low, and let the sauce simmer gently for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure the sauce thickens and sticks well to the chicken.
  4. Serve: Remove from heat and serve the Bourbon Chicken hot with red beans and rice or your preferred Cajun side dishes.

Notes

  • Use boneless chicken breasts for tender, juicy pieces that cook evenly.
  • Adjust the garlic chili sauce amount for desired spice level.
  • Simmering gently after adding brown sugar ensures the sauce thickens properly and coats the chicken well.
  • Serve with traditional Cajun sides like red beans and rice for an authentic meal.
  • To make it gluten-free, substitute the soy sauce with tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce alternative.
