Marinated Tofu:
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 block (16 ounces / 450g) firm tofu, cut into 1/2 inch (1 cm) squares
- 1 tablespoon peanut oil
- 1 teaspoon Shaoxing wine
Spice Mix:
- 1 teaspoon white pepper powder
- 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar (or regular sugar)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
Additional:
- Oil spray
- Lemon wedges for garnish (Optional)
- Mayonnaise for garnish (Optional)
Instructions
- Marinating the Tofu: Combine garlic powder, ginger powder, and salt in a bowl. Pat dry the tofu and mix with spices, peanut oil, and Shaoxing wine. Marinate.
- Preparing the Spice Mix: Combine white pepper powder, sugar, salt, and five-spice powder in a bowl. Mix well.
- Cooking the Tofu: Coat marinated tofu with cornstarch. Air fry at 400 degrees for 10 minutes until golden brown. Toss with spice mix while hot.
- Serving: Serve hot or at room temperature as an appetizer. Garnish with spice mix, lemon wedges, and mayonnaise as desired.
